The fun'raising begins:  K is for Kids' 4th annual Bring a Book, Bring a Friend book fair & book drive is almost here, and there's lots of free fun for kids of all ages!

Third Bring a Book, Bring a Friend Book Fair & Fun'raiser 2011 hosted at Barnes & Noble Booksellers, Waterside Shops in Naples, Florida. Children will be treated to many FUN'RAISING STATIONS by our Teen Advisory Team who will be helped this year by high school Kiwanis Key Club volunteers as well as National Honor Society students!

Cat and Crow: an amazing friendship

 

 

New to our fun'raiser this year is K is for Kids' dear friend and advisory council member, author Lisa Fleming who will read her inspiring book Cat and Crow: an amazing friendship.  Illustrated by Anne Marie Dominik-Harris, this is a real life story that can be viewed on YouTube (registering almost 9 MILLION hits) by clicking here:  "Crow and Kitten are Friends."  Ms. Fleming will be giving children a free origami bookmark that turns into Cassie the cat and a coloring activity, too!*

K is for Kids also welcomes back HarperCollins author Margaret Cardillo (shown above and at right) whose nationally published book Just Being Audrey has captivated readers of all ages and won prestigious awards: Illustrated by Julia  Denos, the book is a biography for children about beloved actress Audrey Hepburn.  In honor of the late children's ambassador and fashion icon, a strand of white beads will be given to all.*

 

* Children will have a writing workshop given by Ms. Cardillo; then it's off to the fun'raising stations!   Activities for the afternoon include:

Mayor Bill Barnett will be our honored guest, speaking at the end of the afternoon and drawing the lucky raffle winner.

* Authors' book signings!

* Young authors book -- Kids put pen to paper to write their own page in K is for Kids 4th commemorative young authors book!

* Free photographic portrait taken to accompany the young writer's story, compliments of Wilkinson Photography!  Friends & family may join in, too. 

* Balloon twisting and clever creations by family entertainer Walt Timoney!

* Face painting by our high school volunteers! 

* Scavenger hunt!

* Raffle** for a free basket of books!

* Prizes!!

**Each guest receives one raffle ticket.  Receive an extra raffle ticket for EACH book donated for a child in need!  Guests may purchase a new book at the book fair or bring a book that is new or gently used.  Books are welcomed for children of all ages, from toddlers to teens, but especially are needed for young elementary school children.
